How do I restore Chrome after a Windows 7 reinstall?
« on: July 20, 2012, 02:16:40 AM »
So it's getting about time to do a clean OS reinstall. Last time I did it I thought that when I logged back into Google and then installed Chrome that all of my bookmarks, settings and everything else would be just like it was before the OS reinstall. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks but that really did not help. I'm hoping for some simple step by step instructions. I have searched google but I'm not seeing any simple step by step instructions anywhere.

It gives the path to the settings in there:

C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

In there should be a folder called Default.  I've never used Chrome, but it looks like it works just like backing up a Firefox profile.  Save the contents of the Default folder to a flash drive, reinstall OS, reinstall Chrome, run Chrome, and it will create that Default folder again.  Go in and replace the contents of the new Default folder with everything you saved from your old Default folder.

no offense but that is pretty simple.  note the folder/location in question is a hidden folder so you need to enable hidden files and folders.

if you just want to export/import bookmarks

Export bookmarks from Google Chrome

Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
    Select Bookmark manager.
Click the Organize menu in the manager.
    Select Export bookmarks.
Choose a location where you want your exported file to be saved, then click Save.

Google Chrome will export your bookmarks as a HTML file.

then import them after install.
