Title: How to clean XLR Corrosion?

I just received a 460 body from an Ebay sale and there is what looks to be some sort of corrosion on the side of the housing. How should I go about attempting to clean this? 99% ISO? It looks like corrosion on a battery terminal.

It probably wouldn't hurt to take a peek inside the preamp body as well.

Yeah I cleaned it up a bit but I'm going to return it as it doesn't work. Thanks for the tips.

De-oxit is great, but be aware it can kill a condenser capsule in a second.  Recommendation is spritzing on a q-tip in a different room, wiping connector, wiping off.

This is why I prefer the 100% liquid solution version, as I find it to be less wasteful overall.  You really don't need much of the stuff:

If you have a lot of gunk to clean, I recommend saving a bit of money by using 99% isopropyl alcohol for the major cleaning, and then follow up with Caig DeOxit.

For female XLRs and 3.5 mm jacks, the brush-style dental cleaners are excellent.  Just be sure to get the kind that are NOT coated in minty flavor.

Ha, those are exactly the products I had lying around at home. I love that DeOxit for old amp pots and such.
