Sound Devices 302 field production mixer?
« on: January 12, 2005, 10:54:45 AM »
Anyone using this?     http://www.sounddevices.com/products/302master.htm

This has got to be nice to have. Kinda a steep price, might as well buy a V3. It has to add some great detail....

I bought the Wendt X4 over the SD only because it offered me 4 channels and was actually less expensive. Now that I'm running the Deva IV, I'm actually selling the X4, so if you're looking for a mixer, let me know and I'll make you deal on a nice 4 channel mixer.

And the 302 has no a/d. But it is a nice small, AA battery unit, if your'e looking to do a 3 channel mix. I've thought about one myself. I lot of folks use the MX100, but if your'e mics require phantom, you need to power the mics before the MX, which means more gear. A 302 and an SBM1 might make a nice small rig for the 3 channel folks. I made some nice 2 channel tapes with a MP2>SBM1.

I have been dreaming of a 302 for awhile, but even the used ones on ebay sell for upwards of $900. Looks to me like a 3 channel mp2 but I am no tech expert.

That's pretty much it. ENG mixers aren't cheap. The X4 new cost me around $1800 or so. The X2 which I ran prior to that ran around $800. The beauty behind these mixers is they all use virtually no power, all run off AA batteries (usually) and are very hard to destroy.

I keep seeing the AT ENG mixers pop up on ebay(forget the model) but they go very quick..they are around 500 bucks or so. 4 channels..2 outs. and yep wayne...this looks indestructible..

yes sometimes as additional inputs to my 744 or as stand alone directly to the camera
very nice preamps .
the good stuff except the preamp , you have continus preamp pot ( additional to the fader)
ms decoding
monitoring  for all channels
limiters that could be set from +4 to 20 db , and most important to these who run the consumer or semi professional recorders ,ability decrease the output level  for better matching of recording device .
working on 6-18v ext voltage or internal aa cells
rf immunity is also good , no cellphones can penetrate during the recording ( oh-wendt :-))

oleg kaizerman(gebe)hollyland
kaizeroaudio-rentals -sound for film/tv sales

schoepses, gefells, sankens, sennheisers....all kind of shit ....ends with deva 16  fusion ,zfr,788, 744, hhb
