SoundForge 8 Audio Restoration Tools - Nice for clap removal...
« on: January 15, 2006, 11:38:05 AM »
These used to be called "Vinyl Restoration Tools" in past versions of SF -  more aptly named in version 8. The stock setting works amazingly well for removing clappers...nice for quiet shows where those close proximity clappers can be annoying - Helps get the most out of Normalize

Is this standard with SF 8 or is it another plug-in I can't afford?
I always seem to end up next to someone clapping too vigorously >:(

They are included in the trial version - so looks like they are stock.

I have Sound Forge Audio Studio 7 and it does have a "vinyl restoration" on it could you explain what settings I should use? I tried the default settings and it seemed to help some.

Default settings for SF 7

Click removal (1 to 20) : 12
Reduce Noise by (off to 100 dB) : 10 dB
Affect Freq above (100 to 10,000 Hz) : 2,500 Hz
Attach speed (1 to 20) : 7
Release Speed (1 to 20) : 7
Noise floor (-inf to -40 dB) : -90 dB
A six pack a day, that's all we ask.

Do the settings look similar to what I put in the previous comment?

If so which part of it help with removing the clapping or is it the sum of all the settings?

Those are the same as the default in SF8 - For a few claps I just select each clap - for a buch of claps - just select that area...you can play with the "preview" check box to check results before you apply the tool...

I have also had great luck using this tool for removing digi-noise and DAT crackles...
