Title: Using MiniDV for audio only stealth taping.
Post by: mbself on May 16, 2007, 11:24:03 AM
I have a MiniDV cam with stereo mic input.  I have ordered a Zoom H2 to tape a festival that will happen in June.  My fear is that the unit will not ship in time for me to tape it.  I could stealth the camcorder and use it as an audio only recorder.  I know that in SP mode I can get up to 83 minutes on some tapes.  In LP mode I could, theorhetically, get up to 120 minutes on one tape.  My question is this:

In LP mode is the audio still 16bit 48khz or does it default down to 12bit 32khz?

I have found no reference to this in the owners manual.  It is a samsung scd-102.

If no answer is available from anyone I could just tape something and do a frequency analysis on it.

i've actually done this before after plugging in stealth mics and being told no video..  i guess it depends on the camcorder, but when i record in LP i get the same quality audio and video as if i was using SP.  and SP normally gets you ~94 min in LP.  if it's a 60min SP tape.
