Voltometer recommendations
« on: July 11, 2004, 05:44:11 AM »
I need something that I can put on xlr pins and be able to tell the output voltage.
that's basically it
does price affect the accuracy, or do more expensive one's just have more widgets?

I'm a total douche-nozzle when it comes to electronics

thanx in advance

schwill;

you don't need a fancy one to measure the voltage.  check ebay or radio shaq.

The "fancy" ones are just more accurate.  They measure RMS voltage (Root Mean Square) of the sinewave.  I got a cheapy from radio shack and it doesn't measue voltage  at all after a month.....piece of junk.  I use one all the time at work so I got one made by Ideal.  Fluke also makes some good voltmeters.

*edit*

Oh and Harbour Freight.....I'd be very careful what you get from them cause IMHO 99% of thier stuff is crap.  They also take *FOREVER* to ship (it took me several weeks to get orders).

Just go to a local electronics store and pick one up.  Better to do it in person, IMO, so you can confirm the leads will actually fit / are long enough to reach inside the female XLR slots.  Some do, some don't.

RMS of a sine wave wouldn't apply here for DC voltage?  schwilly needs to measure the phantom voltage which is DC, not AC.

DOh...yea you're correct.  The link rowjimmy posted is the one I got from ratshack that was quickly junk.  YMMV.
