Schoeps cmc6 "protection" options?
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:53:07 PM »
Anyone have a slick solution to protect cmc6's while in their gear bag while running kc5's?  My preference is to have all cabling connected and have something on the cmc6's to prevent them from getting all dinged up.

I use a single piece of static-free foam.  Cut out holes for the cmc6s (on the smaller side).  When I slide them in they don't move around at all and the collette end is protected too.  I then zip-tied it to the cage I have my V3 in.  I keep them off the bottom the bag just in case..

I have been using a small fanny pack, i just cut holes in the side to exit the xlr's. I open the top to access the kc5's during the show.
After the show i just disconnect the xlr's close up the pack and store, i leave my kc5's attached in the pack, coiled up. I saw another taper use the pelican 1040 micro case to house just the cmc6's, he had holes cut in the plastic for the kc5's and the xlr's. The cmc6's stayed inside the hard case.
Shoot me a pm if you want to try the pelican, i have one i don't use (my cmc6's came in one when i bought them)

What about the shrinkwrap you use to make cables with?  I think I've seen people shrinkwrap the entire body with the active attached.

seems like this would make for a sketchy situation should you ever need to remove the shrink wrap.

i also use pipe wrap

I have my VST62IU in some heat shrink tubing.  I place some Velcro on the outside of the tubing to hold it secure in my bag.

you can kinda get the idea

I like to use 2 x velcro straps for each body, that way you can cinch it down and open it up easily.

Taking this thread slightly tangentially, does everyone realize that you can replace outter sleeves on a CMC5 or CMC6 for not all that much money?  I've recently picked up a pair of bodies that are fairly well battered.  Both Redding and Posthorn have replacements for $56 (for Nextel Gray) and the nickel finish is even less.

I'm not suggesting you shouldn't protect the mics, but if you find yourself in the same position as me, there are options for make the mics look good as new.
