Gefell M210 Windscreen
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:18:34 PM »
I just picked up a pair of M210's and am looking for a quick windscreen solution (can't wait for the special order W20's).  Any suggestions?  I need something for the weekend of 09/14.

Mic diameter is 21mm.

Thanks.

The dpa UA0896 will do the job very well.  I have used them for 10 years and they are fantastic.  I really wouldn't bother using anything else in any situation.  Avoid the "official" Gefell windscreens for those mics.  I bought a pair for $50+ and used them like twice before discovering that they couldn't stop fart breeze.

Awesome.  Thanks for the tip.  I've heard of those DPA's being very versatile and "go to" for many around here.  I'll give those a shot.

i use the big round neuman ones i got from dan @ dale pro audio.  the work quite well, unless you are needed to use them in a 'dead rat' situation

chris

I use all of the MG200 series of capsules & bodies, and this is what me & my friends who also have these use.

x2.  They are a great go-to windscreen for just about any microphone around that diameter.  Pretty good transparency for a screen of that size and fairly easy to find dead rats to fit them if you need additional wind protection.

I use windtech 1300/1400/whatever they are for light duty, and the "big ass shure" for outside fest.

If you were in the UK it would normally be no problem to get you the Genuine Gefell windsields in a very few days.  They could be despatched direct to you from the factory straight away if it was urgent and you contacted any Gefell dealer in the UK.

The Neumann KM series are 22mm so the windshields might be a bit loose.  The Schoeps are 20mm and may be a bit tight, but with only 1mm difference should be OK.

Thanks all.  I looked into the AKG type as well.  Those are special order through B&H (7-14 days), so I went with the DPA's.  I use the big Neumanns on my AK40's and have been happy with the results.  I might grab another pair of those.  I've also used the Big Ass Shures as well.  All good suggestions.

I'm hoping to have it all squared away for T-ride Blues and Brews next weekend...

Hey J!  I wouldn't characterize it as a permanent move.  I'm testing the waters though.  I was really happy with AK50 recordings I was getting, and I wanted to dabble with some different mics, ...so on and so forth - so I landed on an MG Hyper.  We'll see.  I've always been happy with the Neumanns, and currently have no plans for moving away from them.  I'll be pulling four channels for now, running the Neumanns through the Little Box and MG's through the ACM V3.  I've been consistently happy with AK40>Naiant combo so that seems like a pretty solid spot to sit for now.

I have a V3, but I find it too crispy sounding with the hypers. With the omni's it's great to cut through any boom if there is any. For the hypers I'd recommend a transformer based pre like the Neve Portico 5012 or the Aerco MP2, or something similar like an Oade brick. I love the Portico, but it's big and bulky and tough to carry around. It sounds sooooooo good in "Silk" mode though, it's tough to give up. I may end up selling it though because I'm looking to downsize and just use the Aerco.

Sounds like a great plan, I'll be interested to hear your opinions after you've run them for a while. I've heard many a great recording from the m210's, I don't think you'll be dissatisfied.
