SO I can't make up my mind.  I'll be running these into a P2  with no external pre(yet).  Pros and cons on these two mic's?  thanx, Kirk

PS:my buddy decide to hang on to his modded nak 700's.  can't say I blame him

Stereo mics are the heat.....but you are limited to coincident techniques..no spaced or near coincident.

I have an AKG 426b, and it is by far my favorite microphone.

Cons of stereo mic--- bulky...coincident techniques only..

C4s--vanilla sound quality, fewer pattern options than the lsd, more time to put up(the stereo mic..you just aim and forget..)

Pros and cons on these two mic's?

Small diaphragm condensors (SDC) like the Studio Projects C-4 generally offer greater transient detail, while large diaphragm condensors (LDC) like the Studio ProjectsLSD2 offer a more lush, meaty sound with less transient detail.  Just depends on what kind of sound you're after, depending on your recording situations, playback, and ears.

the LSD doesnt' lack detail in any regard (concerning less transient detail over the c4), so dont let that scare you.

every now and then I think of selling mine, and then listen to some recordings i've made w/it and say "damn"....
I can't think of a better way to spend $500 on this hobby.

stereo mics rock!  and coincident techniques, especialy with LD mics, are where its at!

Speaking of the donkey dick (as coined by Nick) has anyone picked up the updated model? Looks nicer and supposedly offers minor improvements.

Having owned the C4's, but not the LSD2's, I'd agree with Nick. The LSD2 sounds great. I did like the C4's, but I've heard some very nice LSD2 recordings. I am starting to appreciate the the LD microphone sound more and more. Plus, all the pattern choices with the LSD2, make it an easy decision in my mind.

looks like the upgraded the cable as that one is a screw on and not the normal style "snap in" jobbie.
wonder if they used better stock for it.

I have an AKG 426b, and it is by far my favorite microphone.

So I finally decided this is the bestest upgrade for the LSD2.  But AKG US says it is discontinued.  :(

By the way, Cascade (of recent Fathead Ribbon mic fame) has a single point LD stereo mic listed as coming soon.

Hey Teddy-

I didn't realize they discontinued the 426? Or are you confirming that the 422 is discontinued?  What kind of price do the overstock mics go for?

have you used the 426??

the stock 422 isnt what it could be(modded is different, like macdaddy has)..but the 426B is the absolute heat.

The more I run my LSD2 the more I like it. I have been looking for that low end and Ive found it. I p;ayed my wsp Macon on the PA at the club the other nite and the guy running sound couldnt believe that the recording came from that mic. It sounds real good. I cant wait to get that silver cable in my hands and broken in. I know its going to only enhance this mic.

I'm still torn between the LSD2 and Pelusos. Is there any sound issues with the LSD2 in tiny or small bars?
