DPA 4023 stereo kit??
« on: January 15, 2008, 06:16:52 PM »
I'm not sure if these can these be bought as a matched pair/stereo kit? For example, the 3521 kit is a pair of 4021's. Is there a 3523 kit? Who has the best prices?

Thanks

I thought so, but where? Nobody lists them as far as I can see. Same price as a 3521 kit? Are they matched?

Last I heard you could only get the stereo kit through DPA.  Things may have changed since then but when I was looking it was just DPA.

Yes, thats the way it's looking. With this brand/quality is having a matched pair that important. Do most folks have matched pairs? If I buy two from someone like B&H, I wonder how close the serial numbers will be.

I would fully expect non-matched pairs to be extremely close to one another sonically coming from DPA.

If I can suggest, try calling Full Compass and see what they'd do for you deal wise as well as trying to track down consecutive serial numbers for you.  I've always had a you get whats on the shelf experiences with B&H.  Not that that is a bad thing I just can't see some warehouse guy looking at serial numbers for a customer.  Maybe though.

Good point. I wonder how many people own matched pairs that didn't buy a stereo kit.

As far as B&H, they have the best advertised price per mic. I guess Full Compass would match price or possibly even be better by phone.

Anyway, I'm ready to spring for a pair of these, matched or not. I'll try calling DPA of N.A. first to see what they say.

when spending this kind of money, I would require that the mics be factory matched, but that is just me, this kit would cost around $4000 I will bet

When I was searching for mine, DPA Colorado told me that any dealer could provide the 3523 kit.  He said if they played dumb to refer them to DPA Colorado & they would inform them.

At the time I was looking, DPA Colorado was still selling direct & this kit was ~$3,250 new, IIRC.

I bought a set of 4011's in 2001 and they had consecutive serial numbers but were not matched and they were 1 to 1.5 db's different.I bought a matched set of 4023's in 2003 and they were def within .5 db of each other. In 2003 DPA charged $150.00 for matching. I'm sure its that or more now.I never botherd with the kit.It came with a slew of stuff I know I would never use. With the 4023's you can run them in all the schoeps kwon bars and run them in a vark bar as well. The best mics for the sweet spot imo.

I know AKG doesn't even do "matching" anymore. The standards at the factory are such that it wasn't worth doing this anymore.

You may require it but it wouldn't surprise me if most of these high end companies just were not doing it anymore.

Ever since I got the kwon bars, I've run them this way. I feel alot more secure running them this way instead of the CXO4000 mount. I would recommend buying the mics and paying for the matching over the kit if I were buying new.

I was referring to spending a large amount of scratch on DPA's and requiring they be factory matched, I would not put AKG mics into the same category with DPA's

yeah mine were matched picked them up from sonic sense when I got mine...they will work in all kwon bars.  I will say that the scheops ortf bar is an extremely tight fit but it fits there as well if you dont want to use the dpa mount...once I moved to DPA I have never looked back.
