Samson phantom power adapters...
« on: May 19, 2004, 09:40:45 PM »
Alright, i have a pair of these samson adapters and they are tight as hell on my ad20 and ps2 (can barely get em on), they fit just fine (albeit a bit loose) on my mv100...are there any other companies that produce these adapters so i can try them out and see if they fit with my ad20 and ps20?  Please provide a link if you can, thanks.

Most are more expensive... Make a set of short male female extensions...

wait, you gonna need to add the mini-xlrs onto the end of the mics, so why not get started on regular XLRs?

ok so...where the heck can i find a short cable that terminates from mini xlr male to xlr male?  So i can plug in the mics on the mini side and plug the xlr male end to the preamp?

Ummm

you don't want to do that...

You want to get a male / female XLR cable, not mini...

like this:

But shorter...

I was just saying, to use the Samson adapters, you have to solder on mini-xlrs to the mic cable, so why not make your own XLR cables in the process, unless you are having someone else put the mini-xlrs on.

sorry for the choppy sentence

Ok and i'll just slap on the samson adapters then?  Schwill, the mics are converted to phantom power so they are terminated to mini xlr...did i ever state how much xlr cables suck?   >:(

They are such a fkn hassle to deal with and their thick and cumbersome, which is annoying for stealth situations...even worse are those adapters which you can probably knock someone out with...i'm trying to figure out how i'm going to stealth the bela show tomorrow night, it's supposed to be hella hot here in nyc and wearing anything thicker than a t-shirt will surely make me go spastic.  Getting the gear in isn't a probably, no patdowns or wands.  Getting it out of my pockets and getting situated in my seat will be hell.

(starting to think about getting that mic2496 preamp)

hea AT853RXWH your right on with the recommends. you come from your mics to a mini XLR then to the adapters, which in the case of some mics is required. like AT's sold by sound pros. when you have mics with a max voltage like the SP-CMC-8's they pack a maximum voltage of 11 volts if im not mistaken. the adapters make the 48 v phantom to 11 v. and the question you seemed to answer for gloco is that the fatty samsons would not fit in her phantom/preamplifier female XLR's. i bought 2-25 foot Fender xlr mic cords for $25.00 for both and they seem to work great maybe not supurb but...stumpy XLR's should be as inexpensive... and would indeed give a regulated size of XLR that would fit her deal.   your 8531's are they an actual phantom power source?

The 8531's are just phantom power adapters, like the Samson PM4's.
