Upgrade from zs100?
« on: February 07, 2025, 03:49:57 PM »
Im looking for something that looks better a little closer up/wider image but not fish eye. Better for smaller club settings or on stage, with possibly better stabilization. Maybe in the 600-$700 price range. Thanks in advance

What was that sample shot with?

If your shooting close to stage front or on stage pretty much any lens at lets say 17mm or less 11mm i think is what you need but all will suffer from soft edges like that. Its just the nature of wide angle lenses.

It's a sony hdr mv1. Got it cheap cuz my sony hdr as300 broke. Pretty much the same action cam setup. I like the shot I get with them, it just looks sub par to me. I can't even really use the lumix in that room. Thank you for the info though.

Maybe a SONY RX100VA?

It's not the latest generation but it has a better lens than the 6th and the 7th generation and can be had in the 700-800 € range.
I bought a second one for slightly less than €700 last year when SONY ran a seasonal sale.

I use two RX100VAs for on-stage filming from stage left+right  in pretty much the same angle as in your video.

Why not try your phone in the meantime?

This actually might be the better solution.

Funny you say that. Decided to try an old moto z4 until I figure out what I'm going to get I have looked at the rx100 so thank you for the suggestion if then else. A buddy is going to lend me a cannon G5 to try out as well. Appreciate the responses. My wife's timing belt just went up in smoke yesterday while I was getting groceries so doubt I'll be buying a camera in the near future now unfortunately.
