Anybody out there use the Neumann TLM103's
« on: April 27, 2006, 02:10:15 AM »
I don't see a lot of tapes made with these.  I have an opportunity to pick a pair up for $900.  Seems like a good deal.

Anybody have opinions on them?  How's the SNR?  Flexibile?

Anything will help at this point.

a pair for 900, definitely sounds like a deal.  I'd go for it.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

I had a pair for a while last year.  They can sound nice in the right room.  Most engineers I know hate them, but I thought they sounded pretty good "in the field".

They're definitely not in the same league as other Neumann LD's (they are marketed for home studio enthusiasts mostly), but for that price I'd say they're probably worth a shot.

i owned a pair for a while, and never liked them on anything.  they were harsh on every acoustic instrument i tried them on, except for acoustic guitar, and they were thin as a main stereo pair.  there are many better choices in LDCs for that money, IMO.  the good neumann mics include the U67s, U89s, tlm170s, U47s, m50s, km84s, km54s, and sometimes the U87s.  the km140s and 150s have their applications, but never cut it for me as all-around mics.

gefell M930s run circles around them.TLM 103s I dont care for. Had a crack at a pair for 850 USD, turned them down.  Bought a pair of Beyer M130/m160s instead.

Neumann products just dont do it for me. (well, other than the u87, tlm193/u89 at times))

if you are looking for neumann sounds, look no further than Microtech Gefell ;)
