Title: computer DAT drive

So my school is having this little computer auction with all these old computers, i just happened to stumble upon this really old compaq that only has DOS not windows but it had a 4.8 gig DAT drive, what exactly is this?

It's a tape backup device.... Possibly one that reads audio. Yer gonna have to do some googling & searching of this site to find out if it does.

if it is a compaq there is a very good chance it's a ctd-8000. i know that they came OEM in the proliant servers for a while.

it should tell you during the adaptec boot sequence what device it is. look at the second link joe posted above for specific model numbers that are audio capable.

that reminds me, i need a 5.25" bay sled for mine.
