Hmm...odd noise in my tape
« on: December 12, 2003, 07:48:51 AM »
Ok, after tracking out the first show with the Firewire 410, I find something that concerns me a little.  Take a listen (warning, don't have the volume all the way up):

That happened 4 times in a short period, then the rest of the tape has those noises throughout, only they're much quieter.  I'm just wondering if this could be explained by anything, or if I should immediately blame the 410?  I'm hitting up two shows tonight, so hopefully it was just a one time thing...

sounds like a power issue.

where you set up near any lights?

Shouldn't have been a power issue.  I was running it off of bus power with a Valance NCharge.  It didn't even use half of the charge.

The only thing near the rig was the FOH board.  But why would it suddenly pop up 3/4 of the way through the show?

Try a high quality sheilded cable...  it sounds like some sort of interferance.

Well I was using an Apple slim firewire cord.  I'll try using something a little bigger, like the one that came with the 410.  I didn't think it would matter, but hopefully that's the only thing that's wrong.

I did two shows last night without any hiccups.  I really do like this thing...

I learned with the ULN-2 that FW cables matter. MH forgot to include their FW cables in my initial package, so I got a cheapo one somewhere just to use. It was the only time I've ever had trouble with the computer even seeing the device.
Out of the game … for now?
