Transfer issue...
« on: December 15, 2003, 06:12:20 PM »
I recorded my roomates band the other night at 44.1 instead of 48 because the discs needed to be spun fast and he didnt need the 48 version.  Anyway heres the problem, after recording the dat onto my comp. the playback speed is normal when listning on my comp but after burning the disc he listned to it on his cd player and its not only faster but a whole key up (if he was playing in b minor its now in c minor).   :-\ I cant figure out whys its ddoing this, I changed my input on the soundcard and the setting on soundforge to 44.1, any suggestions??

is there a timing change as well (it's shorter) or just a pitch change?

That's kinda strange.  Almost sounds like you brought in a 44.1k file, relabeled the header to 48k and then your burning software resampled it to 44.1 for the cd burn.

What's the transfer chain and what software did you burn with?

im using nero.  Joe I checked the dat and its definately 44.1.  I used 483>minime(44.1/16)>M1(44.1/16) then i used pcm-r300>coaxin>audiofile24/96>soundforge(44.1/16) and I changed the settings on my sound card to 44.1/16

that is just weird.

if all of these things are good, i dunno:

dat plays at 44.1 > card set at 44.1 > soundforge @ 44.1

wow - my head hurts.  How many CD players have you used and how many times have you burnt it with the same problem??  Id put it on CD and listen to the CD off your computer and see if its the same thing.  If thats the case, then there may be a setting in Nero that fucks with it???  Burn another show that plays back the wavs fine and see if when you burn to CD it speeds up again....

just what i would do to see wtf is going on, other than that im clueless....

Not sure how much you want to pursue it.... forgive me if I insult your intelligence but im bored enough right now to just type out the thing i would try, granted i have limited knowledge of this shit compared to most....

I would burn the files to a data disc and then convert to audio CD on another computer and see if the same thing happens (good playback on computer and messed up when burnt to CD and played on other playback)

I would transfer a different show to audio CD and see if the problem is the same there.  If so then it would most likely be the CD drive on your computer i would assume that is having the problem  ???

I dont know how in the world you would fix it if any of there are the case, but at least you may figure out if its a soundcard problem, burner, or software.....

blah, blah, blah, just remember im an idiot  :P

Are you saying that the same cd plays at a different pitch and speed depending on where you play it???  That is whacked...shouldn't be possible.
