PC Replacement for Sony RDR-HX900?
« on: October 09, 2009, 02:41:15 PM »
I've got a Sony RDR-HX900 hard drive/DVD burner that I've been using for the past 5 years or so to make DVD's of tv shows here and there.  It's starting to quit on me, and it appears as though these can't be repaired, and the market for hard drive/DVD burners has just about dried up.

I was just wondering if someone could point me in the direction of using a PC to do the DVD burning.  I could still use the HX900 to record to the hard drive, but then I'd need to get the video onto the PC for editing/burning.

I realize I probably can't do this digitally, but perhaps someone could let me know what others are doing to record/save tv shows to disc?  What hardware and software would you recommend to get started on a laptop PC?  Is there a website or book I could read to understand what I'd be doing?

Thanks, I would appreciate and help, advice or experience.
Bill
