Topic: Compressing a Video File or DVD folder options needed?

I have a few live shows from my friends band that I would like to spread via the net, and bit torrent will be first outlet.

But, ALOT of the fans either don't torrent, or will just want to watch it on their PC

so I would like to compress the hell out of the files, but in the best manner possible

what formats should I use that cut out the least and sound/look OK in the final?

the reason I think this is possible I that I have gotten two 2+hour Clutch videos off YouSendIT, which limits you to 1GB downloads..

both look "OK" for the amount of compression that must have gone on..


any ideas?

IMO.  If done correctly (divx/xvid) can be fine for making a 4gb file into a 700mb file.

I agree, the xvid codec can shock you with its compression/quality.  Divx as well.

how about converting a MPEG 2 file > ? ? (something smaller)?

.avi or .wmv? which is smaller, still with decent video?
