MMA6000 w/non DPA mics (1/8" mini)
« on: July 10, 2006, 12:12:14 PM »
Just wondering if this pre is useable with other mics... in particular CMC8's w/a 1/8" mini connector?  Can you just adapt the plugs? And what would the powering situation be?  I'm always sniffing around for a pre which may improve things for me and, since eventually I'd like to upgrade to DPA4060s, I wonder if this might be a stepping stone updgrade....

I'm currently using the iRiver more than the JB3 (may even sell the JB3 in fact) so it needs to be something that could work line-in or optical with the H120.  Denecke AD20 a possibility of course, but it would need the mod etc etc etc  - also I've heard people say that the CMC8's run a little hot for it and would need attenuating... I'd like to avoid that if possible.  Stealth is always a BIG priority.

I was thinking of this same idea yesterday.  Im sure someone could make a micro-dot->1/8" adapter.  I hear the microdot connectors are expensive though

I was wondering something similar.

DPA makes extension cables for the 406x's. I'd like to make an adapter where I would take the female end of the extension, then cut off the other ends and turn them into a 1/8" stereo plug so I can use my 4060's with the MMA6000 or also convert them so I can run them directly into a R-9 (for those extra stealthy situations).

Does anyone know if that is possible?

Maybe the two of us could split that cable. I would need one half and you might be able to use the other end with a female 1/8" plug.

Here's a pic of the cable:

Dont the CMC8s take 48p?  IIRC, the DPA 4060/4061s only require 5v or so.  If so then you would have to mod the box to step up the juice.

CMC8's are plug-in power, so I don't think that would be a problem.  Does the MMA6000 provide power? I wasn't 100% sure... If so, then it's looking more and more attractive assuming one can adapt the plugging appropriately!

Oh well if they are just plugin power then I think you'll be set if you can find some adapters.  The MMA6000 is power supply and a pre all in one.  Its a pretty sweet little box.
