Just bought a new digi mod ua 5 from the oade site.
Whats the cheapest easiest way to power this sucker.
Will those rat shack 9.6v r/c packs work? Or am i going to have to try and build and sla.
What kind of power jack does it have?
-
Check a little further down this board & theres a thread on field-powering the UA-5.
I kind phellow made & mailed me the y power connector for R/C packs & it works great, took it and my new UA-5 out for its maiden flight last Wednesday.
I picked up a 3000mAh 9.6v pack from batteryspace.com and it lasted the whole nite (about 6 hours). I've heard people say they've got 7+ from it while supplying phantom.
The pack was $30+shipping and came with a charger.

Yeah, here's the other thread -

PayPal is just fine, blu666z@hotmail.com is my account there. I have my parents in this week so it might take me a couple extra days to get by Radio Shack but I should still be able to have it done by the weekend. Please sure to include your address.

I want one! :)
Just kidding, what I do want though is Jordan's website with the pictures to come back on-line so I know what I'm doing!!! :(
-
no doubt! I think I saw someone post over @ Oade a couple weeks ago saying he had it archived on his PC at home.
I'll try to find him/it & put it in our archive.

Done and Done
Thanks again!

Google caches pages. Not sure about images on those pages though. I will put the offer to make you a cable as well npsinboro.

Google does not cache the images, unfortunately.
Also, archive.org's Wayback machine appears to have never crawled those pages... drag.
I found the thread & emailed the dOOd who said he had the page zipped up at home.

I have an extra rat shack 9.6v connector if anybody wants it. They give you 2 in a pack and I only used 1 with my 3000mAh battery.

This ones a bit heavier than the 9.6 rc battery but is for festivals and such...
Take 2 4-D cell battery packs from rat shack and wire them in series...8 rechargable D batteries(or regular batteries)....and a connector to the UA-5....I have been running the same batteries for over 50 hours with no voltage drop in the battery pack....

FWIW, Jordan Shapiro's UA-5 battery site has been uploaded to the server & is accessible thru the manuals board.

I wonder if some kind soul can help me out here. . . I went to radio shack to buy all the parts needed to build the Shapiro style battery pack for powering a UA-5 in the field, but aparantly Canadian radio shack stores do not carry the RC 9.6V Battery Pack Connector Repair Kit. I then tried to order it from radioshack.com only to find out that they will not process international orders. I now have quite a few dollars worth of parts sitting here useless to me unless I can somehow find two female adaptors to build this battery pack. The "helpful" guy behind the counter suggested I cut the male adaptors off the batteries and hardwire them to the adaptaplug. I almost laughed at him. Anyone have any ideas to help me out?
Thanks a ton in advance.

I'd cut the RS adapters off the batteries, charger, etc, and use XLR style or similar connectors throughout the system. You shouldn't have too hard a time finding the XLR's; I imagine Daryan has a few left...
-
jeesh...volunteer me why don't ya ;) I am going to have Justine send a bunch out here so I can get everyone's 4-pin projects finished with and paid for. Shoot me a pm to let me know what I am looking at doing. I think I need to make this a business. Get some wayyyyy overpriced plastic cases and charge a hundred bucks a battery...oh wait, someone beat me to it already, damn! ;D

You're lucky you don't live here then. . . the parts I've bought so far already cost me a hundred bucks. That doesn't count a fancy plastic case either! ;)
So about these XLR adaptors. . . where might I find these? I'm eager to get this thing working so that I can give it to the guy who owns the UA-5 and get my money from him. . .

check out core sound, they have a 6 hr and an 8 hr, and a case for it if you needed it..
http://www.core-sound.com/ua-5.html
-
The 6 hour from Core is equal to the 3000mAh battery from batteryspace, but about $25 more.

Brandon - it's been some time but I noticed Canada mentioned. Let me know if you're in Toronto and I can guide you to parts. Return that Radio Shack crap! You can do this for under $50.

Check the Archival Section for the correct link - it's updated and should be working now.
