True but I will probably just but a portico instead.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

GO for it focker!

i wanna see this mic flyn high at the B-more DBT gig in October

There are a couple of the 250's floating around town, Tim. Ronnie still has his....but the problem with that mic is it HAS to be in the sweet spot or it's pretty much useless.

sort of true..
it can be forgiving too...you just have to compromise on width and polar pattern.  i've made some damn fine recordings from the back of bars w/the 250 in "hyper card" mode on the dial.

that's cool....
all i know is that i have heard some SWEET recordings with the 250, and i have heard some that could have passed for Radio Shack mic recordings.

show me any stereo mic, or pair of mics...that doesn't require some time to figure out how to use in all the average joe taper situations.

the Soundfield shines when in the spot, that much is true.  IMO, it can't be surpassed.
but if your not in the spot..., yea, it can suck.  just like any stereo mic.
I made more shitty recording w/my c422 than I did w/my 250.  that much I know.

the key to using a soundfield ...and getting the stereo output right on the first try, is in ear monitors (etys..etc).

Of course the good ones are the reason I never hesitate to try the 250 sources when available...

I finished tracking out the 24 bit DBT from Sunday.  Gonna post it shortly.  I'm holding back my judgment on the mic until I get out to a few more shows/rooms.  Taping Lucero tomorrow and Heavy Pets Friday.  It'll give me a better idea of what it sounds like.  I never taped the Rams Head before.  Overall I like it, but still wondering how it compares next to the usual suspects.  The only drawback right now is I don't think the preamp/control box packs the same punch as a standalone box.  I'll post the link here when the DBT show is ready.

I also want to get the B format up and running which I haven't done yet, still don't have the decoding software.  Soon though

I thought they had an open taping policy? Should I expect problems at the door?

+T for the heads up though

Yes,  they do.  Roy has a personal interest in taping Lucero and other bands as well.  He has an H4 to tape with.

I just meant you could share a beer and talk with a budding taper....

ahh gotcha!  I thought you were implying I'd have troubles at the door and would need to drop his name.

Focker, This is your next step: From the Sound Devices website.......

Recording B-Format
Sound Devices 744T is a great companion to a SoundField ST350 microphone. The outputs from the ST350 preamplifier/control unit can interface directly to the line-level inputs on the 744T. The W, X, Y, and Z signals from the SoundField mic are connected to inputs 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively of the 744T.

Monitoring B-Format
Because the B-format signals recorded by the 744T need to be decoded to some other format to be meaningful, the 744T has a B-format monitoring mode. B-format monitoring is selected from the headphone output Setup Menu option. When listening to the SoundField microphone, the 744T’s B-format monitor builds a stereo mix using the W, X, and Y signals. For more control in monitoring the SoundField, the ST350 controller includes a more flexible headphone monitoring system.

While customers with earlier ST250 SoundField microphones can use the 744T for recording, the ST350 preamplifier outputs are a better match for the gain structure of the 744T.

So just let me know when you are going to sell me your 722 so I can raise funds.
