DIY/homemade Battery Box (UBB replica)

(1/1)

An update to my posts about my faulty BB from Church Audio - got all the parts in and made my own. I tried my best to keep it basically looking as close to Church's design as possible, which I think worked out pretty well - found a decent amount of the exact same parts on mouser. Now, I'm not sure what internal components and layout Church uses, so I just built mine off of the instructions from https://forums.sonyinsider.com/topic/14343-how-to-build-a-stereo-microphone-and-battery-box/

The components were:
2 x 4.7kOhm 1% 1/4W Metal Film Resistor (MFR-25FTF52-4K7) - Matched to 4.70kOhm each
2 x 25VDC 10uF SU Bi-polar Capacitor (ECE-A1EN100U)
1 x 9 volt battery connector (Keystone 84-6)
Approx. 7" 3 conductor shielded audio cable
1 x 3.5mm stereo jack (NYS231LBG)
(plus solder, extra wire, electrical tape, and some hot glue)

I also wrapped everything with 1 layer of electrical tape before using hot glue to give the BB structure, then used another layer of tape on top of that. I did this so that the BB still has structure/protection, but should also be repairable since there isn't hot glue between every component. The only components which are directly hot glued are the two battery connector cables and the bottom of the output cable (just tiny amounts to keep them in place while I was doing the first layer of tape.

I put my BB next to the faulty UBB in the second attached picture for comparison - mine has the thicker cable!

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out - the biggest difference between the one I built and the real UBB that Church sent me is that mine works  ;D

Hey, I preordered first on the other thread!

Haha glad you guys think it turned out well!

I'd like to field test the BB at a concert before I'd be comfortable shipping off this design. I tested it using my sound system speakers cranked up, and it looked good (no phase rotation needed, no noise, etc), but that's not quite the same as a concert.

Once I do that, if you guys are seriously interested, I'd be happy to build some and send em out for the cost of materials/shipping and a beer :)
