Title: How do I test polarity on a custom R-4 power cable?
Post by: china_rider on April 16, 2008, 01:18:31 AM
Hey all.... A power question here from someone that knows almost nothing about electricity.

I had a custom power cable made for my R-4.  It's 3 right angle connectors to hook to DVD batteries going to one right angle connector for the R-4.  Before actually using the cable I want to verify it was made correctly and the polarity was reversed on the R-4 side with a negative tip.

I have a micrometer but have no idea if I am using it correctly.  I took a single battery and attached it to the cord and then took the micrometer, set to the v with a solid and dashed line over it, and tried the probes on the R-4 side.  If I put negative in the middle and positive on the outside I get a positive reading.  If I reverse it so negative is outside and positive is inside I get a negative reading.  I repeated for the other 2 battery connectors and got the same results.

I'm guessing this indicates each battery connection is OK?  Am I doing this correctly?

Thanks,
Dana

Great, thanks!  Looks like I should be set for a few upcoming festivals with no battery swaps. :-} T+
