they look familiar, like the dayton or pheonix maybe?
beefy indeed though..

I'm just wondering how flexible they are right at the ends... I don't want to use a right angle adapter and I need it to bend up the side of the my bag when running my ua-5 vertical... hmm.
-
I can grab one of these for $22... ahhh, can't decide if I wanna do it. I've been waiting for the SP right angle cables to restock but that's taking a while...

I would hold off for the SP, have they given any ETA? I want one as well..
Of course I have been too cheap to buy one previously, I have been using
a acoustic research cable which has held up well so far..
-
Yah, the problem with SP is that it will cost me $19 to ship up to canada. that's the same price as the cable itself... hardly worth it in my mind. The cable looks so flimsy and cheap. I would feel much more comfortable with a big fat braided cable like this... I emailed the seller to inquire about the flexibility at the ends. If I end up buying this I will take some pictures and try it out. Perhaps it's a good choice for those wishing to run UA-5s or optimod V3s upright in bags...

You have a valid point imo. I have not had any issues with my ratshack RA adaptor as of yet
either. I am probably going to run this cable till it breaks or something :P

I've had nothing but trouble with RA adapters. I ordered a set of 3, and 2 of them fucked up on me right away... added all these little pops and clicks in the recording. I just threw out the 3rd. I will never buy those adapters again, so that leaves me to find a right angle cable (the SP is the only one I've ever seen) or a really heavy duty cable...

I decided to grab this cable... I'll let everyone know how it looks.

Just give him a shout and hopefully he can hook you up!

FYI, found the same cable as SP from an alternate source at < $10/per - see my Retail forum post (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=42369.0). I've used the SP one for a year or so now, maybe longer, and had no problems even though it's not as beefy as I'd like. I've considered adding some sort of protective braiding / sheath to it, but...can't be bothered at this point.
-
Yah, if this beefy cable doens't work out for me I'll probably buy one of those if they still have any in stock in a week...
-
You want a BEEFY cable? I've not seen any beefier than this...here you go (http://www.lifatec.com/toslink2.html):

Ahahaha, that's overkill! Oh man, I just almost fell out of my chair! Great find... I double dare somebody to order one of those.
-
I think I'm gonna buy one of these. Thanks Andrew! +T
-
only thing id worry about w/ a REAL beefy cable is that there IS glass strands in the cable, id be afraid to bend those BEEFY big boys the least bit

I usually run it along the bottom of the UA-5, when upright. Won't be much bending for me. But excellent point. +T

I just got an email from Doug Dyer. He's out of the 1/2 meter cables. He has to order them from Germany. Though I found an alternative, I will be eventually bag one of these. He was selling these for around $16.95 + shipping on eBay. ;D

What kind of right angle adapters are you using? I find they are generally pretty unreliable...
-
These. I've had no problems with them. Used them for my stealth setup too.

They look the same as the ones I've used. They always introduced clicking and popping into my recordings. I generally don't trust optical adapters now but I guess some people have more luck than others. ;)

Some gaffer's tape will stablize the connection between the cable and the adapter. ;)
-
Doug just placed an order for them. They should be leaving Germany tomorrow. He should have them in stock in about 10 business days. I'm waiting on a price confirmation on the 1/2 meter.
-
Still $16.95 + shipping. I'll update everyone when they arrive.
-
For everyone's benefit, here is a picture of the viablue cable compared to a cheapo recoton cable (similar cable thickness to SP's cables I think)... the last one is of the hack job I did to keep a mini adapter on the end... electrical tape and some zip ties... works well!

Sorry you've had bad luck with the RAs. Sounds like we run the same setup, vertical UA-5, and I haven't had any trouble with mine. I did however add a foam spacer between the RA and the UA-5 for support.
