Title: Drop Outs with M1
Post by: Belexes on July 28, 2007, 11:23:33 AM
I switched from the D7 to the M1 and now am having drop out issues with recordings.  Is this something that is an issue with the M1?  The media I am using are Maxell HS-4/90's.  Any ideas on how to remedy this?

My gear:

SP-CMC-8 or DPA4061 > Church Audio St-9100 > M1 > Maxell HS-4/90's.

If it's a tape issue, then that may push me over the edge and go to a hard disc recorder.

I'd suggest checking all your connections by recording anything while using headphones thru the jack. Wiggle all the connections and listen for pops and dropouts. I myself would doubt the M1, I've never had problems like that with my d100 (essentially the same deck as the m1) in more than 6 years with that unit.  However, I had a lot of drop out problems with 1) bad mic cap wiring 2) bad battery box wiring and 3) bad input plug wiring.

my 2 cents, good luck! and please let us know what you find out

That may be the problem.  I am stealthing with a Church pre-amp and M1 all stuffed into a fanny pack and probably the smallest movement could result in a drop out.

I think I am ready to jump to an R-09.  The cost of DAT media these days just doesn't justify me using the M1 anymore, but I think I will keep it as a backup once I get the R-09.

Any recommendations on where to pick up a new R-09? I saw some on Ebay a few days ago, but no deals were had.  Sold for close to $400.

I just got my R-09 a few weeks ago from BPM Music for $339.  You have to call or email them for a quote first though.  There's another place called ScitScat that just started selling them for $320 about a week after I ordered mine..

long shot,.....

were you using a new tape?
Sony's don't like used tapes.

Brand new out of the box.

I think that's a good deal.
