Topic: Analog Recording Transfer Level via PC (Audacity)

So I did a search and couldn't find any definite information on the topic. I have a minidisc player/recorder and transfer my recordings to the PC via an analog recording, using Audacity. When I do this transfer, I try to set the recording level so it peaks, on my computer, lower than 0db so as not to introduce clipping. Would it be worthwhile, post-analog recording, to do the Audacity "amplify" trick to set the peak to 0db (Audacity has the ability to do this without introducing clipping, I believe)?

FWIW, some recordings peak as low as -6db on my computer. When I listen to these CD's, I have to turn the volume up quite a bit.

EDIT: Also, if it makes any difference, these recordings are all done SBD, so there aren't any problems with "thunderous applause" or the like.

Thats exactly what I do...just check that "Dont allow clipping" box.....
