Topic: ADK DC powered Tube mics...one can hope right?

shot an email to ADK asking if they would ever consider doing a LD multipattern tube mic that could be powered by DC in the field, here is the reponse...doubt it will lead to anything, but who knows...one can hope...would love to have a field powered tube version of the TL's, but with more patterns

Great Suggestion!!  Really hadn’t gotten a lot of requests yet,

but then the Shoeps End-Users are just beginning to discover

some of ADK’s Orchestral Mics.  We will pass this to the design

engineers and see how practicable it would be.  I guess 48 Volts

is not what the Field Mics Power at ? ?   (Alas, not my area !)


I appreciate the input, and it will get discussed at great length!!!

 

I have done a few field recordings, but mostly piano ensembles in

altogether weird acoustic spaces seems to be where I ended up.

This is just htinking out of my ass, I don´t know if this is even remotely right.  But my mixpre outputs all different voltages of phantom including 96 I think.  Would that be enough to run tube mics?

yea, the area 51 mic looks fun, but I want that DC power..all they need to do is modify the powersupply for it, couldn't be that hard right?

Aren't most mic tubes DC anyway(250-400V).  most likely ADK  uses an AC power supply converting 110/220 to some sort of DC voltage.  Simple PS mod.  Otherwise if they use AC tubes the mod wouldnt be so trivial but still possible but would require a tube swap.

 FWIW my tube experience is w/ Guitar amps not mics.  All the ones i've been zapped w/ are definately DC and not AC.

have I mentioned before that Larry is a great guy and runs a great company?  He was super nice and informative to me at the AES convention this past october. He said he'd hook up my school with pretty much any microphone ADK makes at a discounted academic price.  He REALLY wants to get his microphones into more studios and recording sessions.

Larry is the man. He got me in touch with one of his engineers since my Tube mic questions where getting too technical.  I guess the area 51 tube mic they have would require a high current 200 Volts DC supply, which would require them to redesign the current PSU, then you would have to find a bat to power it, something car size would work ....so they would have to design a whole new mic and power supply for it to say work on a 12volt SLA. I just want something like the Schoeps m222 system, but on an ADK TL mic

I then asked if they would consider a sub card setting on new TL's

acutally, I use both heavily....tend to use just my mk41's during the winter when all I tape in is shitty rooms, but since the now 2 price increases adding to my schoeps line is just not happening.

yeah, elvo makes the schoeps t00bes DC and AC boxes

the m22 body is def made by schoeps, but the 2 DC power supplies that you need to power the 2 mics is made by a company called Elvo

ahhh...forgot about that.....too bad selling my cmc5's won't even put a dent in getting the powersupplies and bodies, those things are close to 4k now for both....rediculous
