I'll bet that very soon we will see one of these in production minus the built in mics and the VU meters.  I didnt think Sony would withdraw from the portable prosumer DAT market and just leave the HD/Compact Flash/etc. wide open for the competition.  They have too much technology already designed and available from DAT that would be easily adaptable to the HD (similar to what I think we are seeing with the new Tascam unit).  I think it will be interesting to see this product develop.

$10 they build it using MemoryStick or some other proprietary crap instead of CF.
the memory stick is relible media exacly as the cf , these who will buy this recorder will not give a damm to pay extar 100 for the same capacity memory .
thats not a cheap m audio crap , thats sony :-)

yeah, because sony has been the pinnacle of quality and reliability  ::)

Never used DAT, but all my other electronics/stereo gear has been Sony when I could afford it.

Why?  Because I've never had anything Sony crap out on me.  Still have a 15 year old CD player.

YMMV.

My 59ES DAT home unit was a lemon.  I got them to give me a 60ES as a replacement.  Most of my other sony gear did the job.

My guess is your DVD player isn't a Sony. I've had two die from the exact same issue they settled the class action suit over the PS2.

Yes - but not until early next year... will run without for a month or so and then send back for mods...  They are thinking along the same lines as the DAP-1 mods...  will know more in a week or so as they get into it I guess... pure speculation on pricing at this point.
