Dugan won't help most of us at all, but if you're mixing a panel of speakers, it's fantastic.

I own a 633.  Fabulous machine.  833 is the next step up from that.

Pro line stuff.  Nice to see that they are continuing to support that cohort.  R&D development from this and the Scorpio May trickle down to the Mixpre line.

I was thinking that it would go the other way, too.  I am a bit surprised that the 833 doesn't do 32-bit float-point recording like the MixPre II line.

Otherwise, the difference in flexibility and features between the MixPre and their top-line units is very apparent.

where are the analog inputs for channels 7 and 8? Perhaps X1 and X2 on the output side? 6 Preamps is great.

I love the digital in and out on this machine, for me, this is the greatest benefit to this over the mixpre6

256 sdd with dual sd is for me!  but again way above my needs or pay grade.....

I found the 633 to be way more intuitive than the MixPre-6.  And I ran the MP6 for a while.  Just sayin'.

I don’t understand the 3 xlr ins vs 4

4x XLR inputs allows me to do ambisonics with the 833, which the 633 couldn't do

If you're patching out of a SBD, you only need 1 XLR, for the 633/833 will spread the sound to both left & right ISO channels internally.  Luv this feature, for most SBDs I patch out of are mono anyways.

Is it just me or was the 2nd half of this video shot in complete darkness making it impossible to see what is happening. I can see the unboxing during the first half of the video but once the sun goes down it becomes hard to watch.

Yup, sorry about that, I talked for a lot longer than the ten minutes or so that I thought I would! And the sun set faster than I thought as well.

There wasn't much to be seen anyway as I'm just holding the recorder in my hands while I talk about it. (aside from when I comment about the little hidden port, but then again I assume anybody who has been following the 833 already knows about that hidden feature! And the possibility this is for a future "SL4")

Using it on my first shoot tomorrow! (an overseas crew visiting for a reality tv show)
Will report back how I find my first outing

Just think of it as one of those restaurants where you eat in the dark.

Did a shoot, uploaded a video about a "gotcha" with the 833 where I had accidentally left Auto-Mute enabled and forgotten I had:

Impressed with the range of the SD-Remote App for the Sound Devices 833. Handy to have so much range with your tablet to roam with.
