Title: Tascam or Marrantz
Post by: OOK on February 14, 2006, 06:03:25 PM
Ok so I am about to make the jump to 24 bit.  SD it out of sight, not an option.
I am looking at either the Tascam or marantz..... both have their points what would you choose?

The front end will be MBHO648/ka200>minime>     ?

I would like to here from those who use either or have used both.  opinions? what you like and don't like.

I  haven't used them both, but I just made the same decision myself. I chose the Marantz. Doug says it has better build quality and also that the AD chip in the 671 is better than the hdp2. You'd have to ask him for more details. They both have similar features although the hdp2 has the timecode feature. I think it's an option, or a future option for the 671. The stock 671 is a little cheaper at 830 vs 899 for the hdp2. have fun-kevin

I can't comment on the Tascam since I've never used one..... but I've owned a Marantz PMD-671 since September and love it.  Once you setup the menus, it's the easiest recorder to use of any that I've owned..... and every recording I've made has been flawless.  I also like the fact you get over 5 hours on a "sled" of 8 AA batteries. I've got an extra battery holder and was able to get the entire Christmas Jam in December using 2 sets of rechargeable AA batteries.  I had to use 2 Ecocharge 6 volt batteries just to power the V3 that night.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.
