I, and many others, have experienced the pops and drops from an "over-full" jb3 memory.  I loaded up the whole 20G (well, 19G really) to listen at work and I didn't have problems until about 75% full.  This was all just studio CDs.  I was wondering if anyone was ever able to load more on without having problems or if you could more or less on the drive when it was all recorded.

i have successfully filled it up w/ the last 6 phish shows, at about 3 hrs a piece+ a lil extra for coventry, so thats about 20+ hrs, and about the same at moedown, so id say thats about 75%

i have done etsting on it just recording the tv and never heard anything

just keep the HD formatted and do a disc cleanup occassionally and all should be well

Uhh, I've been pretty bad lately and have had mine at like full capacity for the last 2 months...only time to clear off a Gig or 2 before a show, then repeat same process for every show.   No problems with pops or drops at all recording wise.    But I really do want to clear off the whole thing sometime soon here to be on the safe side and do a full format.

I use my JB3 exclusively for recording, never loaded any other music or mp3s, etc. on it.

you kids are lucky.  i've enver really figured it out tho... when it starts and whatnot - just try to avoid it.

havent' had a problem as of late, but then again i ususally format and disk cleanup after every night out.

I've never seen a connection between pops and % of drive used. It is only after a lot of recording and erasing that I get pops.

I've been error free since the summer though, and have only cleaned up the drive once after moedown.

I want to do some more testing for gits and shiggles if nothing else to see if keeps happening or is more a product of the computer catching up.  Thanks for the input!  :D

i have about 5gb of my recordings (in mp3 format) on my 40gb drive, so that me and the lady can lisen on trips.  i use that one and a 20gb one for recording purposes, and no problems.  i just make sure to keep it at least 75% clean for taping purposes.  afterall, that is what i got my 2 jukeboxes for in the first place.  i never ever put anything on my 20gb one...  just wav files from taping as they are being taped.

I almost always am recording onto one of 2 JB3's that are above 75% capacity.  I never can seem to get too caught up with all the transfers I need to do (esp opening acts), so I'm always deleting just enough to get the show I'm about to tape.  And I've only done a disk clean-up once (long time ago, and I'm pretty sure I did a disk clean-up, not disk reformat).  Basically, I seem to violate all the "rules" everyone else takes as given.  And I've never had pops or drops.  YMMV obviously, but I'm always wondering if I'm incredibly lucky or if there really is something else causing the pops other than a full or non-reformated drive.

Well I have one 20GB Jb3, that has nothing on it right now, I usually transfer all my shows then delete them, I am pretty good at not putting it off. Anyway, how often should I do disk cleanup/re-format? And if so, how do I do it (never done it before, but sounds like a good thing). Thanks.

I've never performed a disk clean-up or reformat on my JB3.  I've had up to 70% or so of disk space utilized at times and never encountered any problems.  Though typically I don't have more than 10GB space used, and often less.

i had my first dropout in a year during the mark vann bene.  could have been from me moving the jb3 around while signal was going to it, could have been from a random occurance.  considering i had my d-8 eat 3 dats over a year, i'd say i'm ahead of the game.

fwiw, i delete the shows off the hard drive as soon as they are flac'ed and on a cdr.

same here except i format then reboot :)

only one time ever something weird happened, and im not sure what it was from, it was at first nite moedown this past uyear only the second half of moe, its really weird, almost faint digi-noise-ish, but once in MANY times recording i can live w/ :) and its still very listenable :)

I run my JB3 about 50% full of MP3 for listening on the Harley.  Dump shows right after the show and delete them.  Nary a glitch since day one.

I can't recall the last time I formatted.  I've had my JB3 since the DAY Creative started shipping them - think I was one of the first orders from Creative the day they were release.  Gave them some story about how I "needed one for a review".  Wasn't even getting it for recording, but for listening on my motorcycle...
