I was wondering if anyone has made a digi coax cable? I'm looking at using Canare parts. My main question is this:
Did you have to use the canare crimp tool? Will a crimp tool for r59 or r60 (tv coax) work on these connectors???
Thanks! :)

I've used this $16 Radio Shack crimp tool (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=278-238) with the following parts:
Canare RCAP-C4A RCA connector
Canare LV-61S coax cable
Though in general I prefer soldered connections as they seem more robust, the above cable works fine.

Many thanks Brian! I was hoping that a regular coax crimp tool would work!
I didn't look yet but I assume from what you wrote that there are rca connectors for coax cable that can be soldered instead?? I've never worked with this cable before (other than r59 and r60) and wonder how you solder the ground/sheild to the connector?

Though they may seem more rugged, a soldered connection just adds more material for the signal to flow through. A crimped connection is the purest.

right on Jason. wish there was an easy, sturdy way to just crimp all cables (especially snakes) but alas.

The thought hadn't even crossed my mind. Nice info, Jason.

this is a shameless plug for my fav. electronic store: http://www.pacrad.com (http://www.pacrad.com) Pacific Radio Electronics in Burbank, CA
a friend flew into Burbank airport this past Thursday at 9am. so he and i cruised down the street to PacRad since i needed a longer spdif cable.
here's a custom order job using all Canare parts, with only a 10 minute wait.

it's a 6 ft. true 75ohm coax cable w/solderless connectors and in lovely lavender.
price you ask? $15.50
pm me if you need any cables.
