Topic: Burning DVD's

Hi Guys,

So I come to you extremely confused.  I bought a new DVD player the other day:

And I am trying to burn DVD's, but I cannot get them to play.  I bought new DVD-R's, but I'm thinking it is the format that I burn to the DVD that is causing the player to bounce it back.

Can anyone help?  I've tried MPEG-4, .avi, and many others.  Can anyone recommend a format with this dvd?

dvds are in m2v or mpg2 format for video and pcm or ac3 for audio

what program(s) are you using to author and burn the dvd?

The DVD player probably doesn't like DMB and will not play. Does your DVD player play DVD-A? I believe your player will not play pcm audio if it does not play DVD-A.

Sorry, I'm illiterate at this shit.  BTW, I burnt a dvd in MPEG-2 and it did not work.  I'm using DVD-R, does it make a difference if I use a -RW?

This is driving me nuts.

Yeah, it won't even play the video.  Any chance you could link me to a DVD player that will easily playing burned DVD's.  Preferably the cheapest you could find?  I have no idea what I'm looking for...

I cant remember the model number but search is your friend on this site but I do believe its a Panasonic and its under $200. I am in the ssame boat right now after I switched to 24 bit but I am not sure if I want a DVD-A player or just get a terabyte HD and use that as a jukebox. Any how just search for DVD players that play DVD-A. Most players have a bell and whistle list that reads like 192khz/24bit Audio DAC/96 khz/24 bit digital out put.

That DVD player should play burned DVD-R video.  I have never used Xilisoft's DVD Creator software, but here is a short tutorial on authoring mpeg > dvd or avi > dvd.      http://www.xilisoft.com/dvd-creator/tutorial.html

Also what brand of DVD-Rs, burner, and how fast are you authoring?

rather your player plays dvd-a discs or not has nothing to do with if it will play a dvd-r disc
dvd-a is in 24 bit
dvd-r in pcm are 16 bit

do not use rw disc, you are just wasting money

now lets back up and trouble shoot...
do you have any other dvd-r discs made by someone else you can test in the player? if so do they play?
if not then its the player - take it back along with the discs that plays and find a player in the store that works correctly with dvd-r discs
what brand dvd-r are you using? is it a generic?
generic and even some name brand discs are selective in players, typically older players but some new ones too

i have found the cheaper the dvd player the better.... I used to have a 200 dollar sony player that didn't like certain kinds of discs... I  an have since switched to a cyberhome....

the cyberhome costs 25 dollars and plays anything I can throw at ... NTSC.. PAL ... even mpeg4 and wmv files...  you can pick one up at your local discount store..

certain brands of players just don't like burned dvds... big companies like sony panasonic have the money to make different players for different regions and formats ... smaller companies just have the money to make one....

FWIW, I use Nero to burn VIDEO DVD's and they play fine on all of my DVD players.

You need to burn them as a Video DVD. It should burn two folders: AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.

What exactly are you trying to burn? If you are burning a copy of a DVD, or a homemade DVD you downloaded, then you should put all of the VIDEO_TS files into the VIDEO_TS folder and burn away. Otherwise I'm not sure.

Look up your model on vcdhelp.com and see what type of dvd discs it can work with (+ or -R and so on).

People also post reviews on what media worked/didn't work based on brand names and speeds (ie. Sony 12X DVD-R).
