UA-5 question
« on: August 09, 2005, 08:28:16 PM »
I have the chance to take an UA-5 stock, unmod, but there are an inconvenient: the UA-5 is defective, when it's plug with usb to pc, the edirol isn't recognized for PC, this is the problem explaining  the owner: if I connect the USB-cable with the computer, my Windows xp recognised a audio-device. If I install the edirol-drivers of this audiodevice it will not work. windows takes the drivers, but it stay as only an audiodevice...
my question it's easy, are there any problem for use the UA-5 for tape? (DIYing the UA-5 of course)

I'm not sure I understand your question, but the DIY mod is not very hard - it was my first soldering experience after minimal practice. If you want to use it with a computer, I'd bet that the problem the current owner has is with his computer not the UA5. Depending on the price this person is selling it for, the UA5 is great for taping.

ok, excuse me for my bad english ::)  I know about how do it DIY UA-5, my doubt was that if i  want  UA-5 only for taping there aren't any inconvenient. Just the DIY disable the usb function, if I am not mistaken

+t For your fast answer and for try to decipher my message  ;)

The DIY mod does not disable using the USB to record, only playback, so you can't play files from your computer through the UA5. The only inconveniences to the UA5 are the size and lack of metering I guess.

macacopowa - even if the USB controller is broken, it is quite separate from the audio signal path so I would guess you'll be ok.  The fact that the device is recognized by the pc suggests that we may have a defective 'user' and not a defective UA-5  ;)
p.s. I wrote the directions on the UA-5 digimod

Reading your post again...I think the person has installed the 'advanced' drivers which are used for 24 bit.  The UA-5 then needs to have the little 'adv' switch at the back turned on.  You don't need to install any drivers to use it as a 16 bit machine (and you must keep the 'adv' switch off).

You are right, only i had to switch off the 'adv" and my pc recognize the Ua-5. It's great, i bought one UA-5 for only 64$, i'm a lucky man!! ;D only rest to make the digimod, i hope all go ok.
