So I can get 3 hours off the internal battery. It seem like there is a issue with running it with ext batteries. Still better then my MD as a second deck

What voltage does the wall plug supply to this?? Is it different then what the input says?? Anyone ever try running it with 7.2 volts?

Just about 3 hours.  It can become unpredictable around 2:45 I think (ask Brian Ska about his battery meter at moe.!)....

There are ways to optimize your life.  Turn off the IR Remote Sensor, turn off the back light completely, and keep the monitoring/headphone volume turned down or off.  Probably a few other tricks out there as well..

Did you try the Advanced Search (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=10459), Hoobash?  It works quite well, actually.

Per Nick's comment, I got a solid 3 hrs out of my JB3 at moe.  But for the last 30min or so the battery meter was jumping all over the place - empty, full bars, in between.

I have not checked the output of the wall-wart, but a simple test with a multimeter will answer that question for you.

If you're thinking of using a 7.2v RC battery, keep in mind the actual voltage of the RC battery fully charged will be significantly higher than 7.2, closer to 8+.  I doubt this will work as the JB3 is rated for 5v and most consumer devices do not have the broad operation voltage range of higher quality prosumer gear.  I plan on using 9.6v RC batteries for festivals and wiring a 5v voltage regulator in-line to feed the JB3 the proper 5v external DC.

Quityerbitchin - of course you got moved.  This is a power related thread and belongs in the power related forum.  This way, people can use the Advanced Search (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=10459) feature in the future to find this information very easily.  Ahem.  :P

I dont really mind getting moved. I want instant answers becuase I was making one of those spur of the moment buys. I have wanted a nomad for a while now I got one. Hopefully I can sell my adc-20 so I can get a ua-5 for the nj3. I am going to try to run my nj3 off a 6 volt sla cause thats what i have. I wouldnt leave the rechargable in there. I already knew that from my aiwa hd-s1

Have you tried following the suggestions in the Advanced Search (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=10459) posts pinned to the Open and Archival Info forums?  Following the notes there should resolve any "bad luck" you're having.

Nope.  6v SLA's actual operational voltage at full charge (~7v+) is too high.

You've gotta admit though Brian the search is still a piece of shit ;)

Initially I jumped on the search and typed "JB3 Battery length" to try and help him out.

"End of results"  No results.  It's finnicky at best and requires atleast a few search strings to really find what your looking for.

Opps thought it could run off a 6 volt sla. Look like I will need another int battery

Agreed, the standard search function is shit.  But I disagree wholeheartedly on the Advanced Search - it works very well.

The Advanced Search function isn't finicky at all - it works flawlessly every time.  The issue is that different people use different terminology on occasion.  Better to start broad and then narrow your criteria.  An Advanced Search on the keywords "JB3" and "battery" yeilds all the answers provided in this thread and then some.  Easy peasy.

I taped for about 2 hours and 15 minutes, then ran it in my car for about 20 minutes before the battery died.  I picked up another internal battery off ebay for $30, haven't taped with both batteries in it yet though.

I've run my jb3 using the creative car adapter and a 12v 7ah for 18 hours of record time. That's 3 hours of .wav, file saves, deletes, backlight on and headphones at max. repeated 6 times, then froze about 40 min into the next try.

If you don't mind the weight of an sla, skip the 2nd internal. you can get the car adapter cheaper and run with an sla you already have.
