FUJIFILM FinePix S2000HD
« on: November 05, 2008, 05:38:59 PM »
Any thoughts on this camera?  Anyone have one?  Like it, hate it?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830122161

Been on the fence for a while about buying one.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

oh.... I'll mostly use this for taking pics at local shows/venues in case that matters to anyone.

The aperture is f/3.5 - 5.4 - not the settings you'd want for concert photography. Depends on you're expectations. Some of the older model DSLR's are coming way down in price, may want to save up for a little while longer and get something that's a bit more extendable.

Thanks for the reply.  That was the one specification that was holding me up.
I was also looking at one of these, but didn't really like the xD card only option.

That and it won't take a filter, which isn't that big of a deal to me right now.

Problem with the DSLR's is I doubt I'll be able to get that in to most shows.

the rebel xt/xti/xsi is barely if any bigger than the cam you linked (that olympus).  Add a thrifty fifty to it and it is a small, tight package.

Off course add a 70-200Lf2.8 and there is nothing small about it  :P

I've not looked at any of those.  I'll have a look.  Thanks.

yeah, that camera isn't that much smaller than most dslr's I've seen these days. Do you have any lenses? Maybe you could start with something less superior like a panasonic point and shoot.

I know the optical zoom isn't too great on them but just walk closer! For what its worth, I do not like how they don't have LCD/ELCD on the back so I would have a hard time choosing but I do like the lenses panasonics use.

More importantly, go to a camera store or best buy or some place that sells the cameras and see how you like it in your hands. Maybe you're left handed and it feels just a little weird to you, maybe you have giant hands and you cover the lens while trying to take a picture. See what you like in your hands. I would look for something with the lowest aperture that you can afford.

Hey Sean,

I've got a point and shoot now (Sony), and hate it.  Use it next to never.
It's good for taking a snapshot around the house, and even then it's iffy.
Bought it several years ago just before a vacation to Red Rocks and "had
to have one now" so I settled on what I could find.

I do not have a lens of any type.

Whats up Jason?!! Good to hear from you.

I like my coolpix camera but If I had to do it all over again, I would go with a panasonic FZ series.

but some of the Nikon coolpix do look tempting.

The decision is all yours!

One more thing.

When you take a photo and put it on your computer, it may not be as wonderful as you want it to be. No big deal, just play in photoshop/gimp/pisacca until you like it. Very rarely does the camera capture EXACTLY how you want the image to look.
I did a time lapse the other night and the images came out pretty good. I did a batch "i'm feeling good" in Pisacca and they turned out really nice. Your eyes will be the judge of how you want it to look. Maybe you want it heavy on the saturation and less so on the brightness--its all your choice.

btw, Here's a guy with nice photos: http://www.sanjaysuchak.com/index.html
He's a member on this board too.
