3/8 Screw Plate Connectivity For Setup
SamCastleton:
Hi all,
I'm really struggling to find what I need so hoping someone here can guide me in the right direction,
I've got a Zoom F3 recorder, a Mounting Base from SRSRecordingServices and a Rycote Soft Grip Extension Handle. Essentially 3 items I want to connect together by their 3/8 screws. Its very important to me that this is as small as possible (while allowing space for XLR Connections, a right angle could be cool).
I've looked everywhere over the web, searching Cheese Plates, Mounting Bases and its either very hard to find what I need or I'm using the wrong search words.
Attached is a photo of the kind of item I'm after, sadly it looks like Leo Photo doesn't sell this anymore?

Looks essentially like a stereo mic-mounting bar. Check audio supply places for those. But also check camera and photo-lighting gear suppliers, they carry a log of gear we repurpose for mics and recording equipment.

It looks like a quick release adapter plate like i have on my fluid head big video tripods.
Something like this

check out smallrig, they have interesting solutions

Of course, B+H probably has something similar to what the OP wants and beatkilla linked.

What exactly do you want? Rycote handle on the bottom, then Zoom F3, then SRS mic mount + mics on top?
- Zoom has a 1/4-20 (camera sized) female threaded hole in the bottom.
- Ryote has a 3/8 threaded stud.
- SRS has (maybe) no mounting holes, but is designed to either fit a clamp or a mic shockmount?
You want to do this in a way that doesn't obscure the Zoom screen or buttons (including the buttons on the sides).
I have an F3 that I use on my superlight setups. I wouldn't put a pile of heavy rigging and cheeseplates on it, as it's nice to have it stay small and lightweight.
Simple way:
1. Get a mini superclamp with a 3/8" hole in the bottom (not on the back end) and screw your Rycote handle into it. Clamp it onto the SRS bar. Downside is there's no shock protection. You might be OK, or you might find that you prefer a shockmount. Something like a Line Audio CMEH would be inexpensive, fit your SRS bar, and let you screw your Rycote handle in too, but I think the clamp would be more secure.
2. Then use a handlebar clamp and ballhead or mini magic arm to attach the Zoom to the SRS handle. Bonus: you now get to tilt the zoom however you want to look at the screen, and the buttons on the sides aren't blocked.

^^Note that the 2nd link shows an included 5/8" adapter on the ballhead, but you can remove it and use the 1/4-20 hiding underneath (which is what you need to screw into the zoom).
There are smaller/cheaper crab clamps with 3/8" holes in them too. AliExpress has tons.
This solution will be small, lightweight, and secure.
For added security, run a velcro cable strap from the Zoom F3 rail to your Rycote handle (in case you manage to unscrew it from the ballhead).
