Topic: What Cable Between MP-2 and R-09?

I'm just about finished building my rig, but a question I have is what I should use to go between the sound devices MP-2 and the Edirol R-09? 

I will have the line in jack modded to make it sturdier, and it's obvious that I need a 1/8 male to 1/8 inch male cable, but I guess what I want to know is if a $3 cable from Rat Shack will be good enough or should I have a better quality cable with better wire and better connectors made up?  (Kevin Lowe has offered.)

Here is what I have so far...

MBHO 603a > 20' Canare cables (for when I don't separate the caps from the bodies) > SD MP-2 > ? > R-09

I don't want the ? in the above chain to be a weak link in my setup so if I need to upgrade this cable, I will do so.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

I don't know about the output from the MP-2, but I use a home-made right angle plug to go into mic or line in on the R09.  Actually I have a 12" cable with a right-angle mini male connector on one end and a female miniXLR on the other.  I plug the miniXLR into any battery boxes or other contraptions I use for mics.  Oh yeah, I put a dab of hot melt glue to hold the right-angle miniplug in place.  Couldn't resist this, especially for a brand new piece of gear  .

I have an MP-2 and R-09 I use a custom 1/8" to 1/8" male plug and it works great, just be careful and you'll be fine.

i use a 12" long 1/8" cable with right angles between my mp-2 and my iriver.

obviously you have the option to run xlr out of the mp-2 into the r-09 as well.  it will be +10dB (i think) hotter then the 1/8" out if that is a concern.

i went 1/8" b/c it was more low profile for stealthing.

I don't know about Sound Devices MP-2, but I'm going to be using a Aerco MP-2 into my R-09 and the manufacturer of the MP-2 recommended using the RCA out to a 1/8" miniplug. He said the 1/8" is pretty useless on the Aerco MP-2 and it was designed for headphone use. I'm having a 6 inch "Y" cable (2 RCA's > 1/8" miniplug) made to use with my setup. Maybe the SD MP-2 is different than the Aerco though.

Yes, the SD MP-2 has an 1/8" "Tape Out", that I use to run to the R-09.  It also has XLR Line outs.

yeah, steve i'd recommend you look at someone making you a nice XLR > right-angle mini cable made of the fiber of your choice.

the XLR out is +6dB hotter than the tape out jack, just be aware of that.
