Will a R4 run off a SLA? almost 13.5V at full charge

R4PRO uses 8AA batteries: (8)x(1.5vDC) = 12vDC. It also draws 1.4A.

A 12vDC, 1400mAh SLA battery will power the R4 for 1hour. Increasing the Voltage will not increase length of power, it will only increase the amount of power delivered. If you deliver more than needed, the extra will be given off as heat. Also, not sure what the min. vDC of the R4 is... If you SLA drops in Voltage (typical), it may fail... If the R4 is good for 9vDC - 14vDC, then you're probably golden...

No extra voltage but I have charged SLAs and I was scared to plug them in to the R4. If the polarity is correct the rest makes sense. Thanks.
Don't want to let the magic smoke out.

Whew... Works like a champ. Does everyone know about magic smoke? Magic smoke is what makes electronics work. If you do something and let it out... The gear just stops working. Didn't you ever notice that?

I run mine off a 14v SLA and it works fine. I have blown a fuse in my battery cable setup at one point, but the R4 is fine at the voltage.

Yeah, throw a fuse on there and you'll be fine...
