Can we omit ‘rated speed’ seems like a lot of people will quote burst speeds which are often arbitrary speeds the card manufacturer claims. For our purposes class is more useful as it’s indicative of minimum sequential write

Class 10, U1= 10 MB/s
U3, V30 = 30 MB/s
etc

Unless you want to use it as a descriptive identifier for the card- ‘Lexar 2000x’ , ‘Sandisk extreme plus 150 MB/s’ etc

Also model number and if known, country of origin may be useful. I have two sandisk cards purchased recently, one was made in China and is ‘extreme’ and is pn SDSDX-V5..... The other is made in Taiwan and is ’extreme plus’ pn SDSDX-W5. Despite one being labeled plus every rating on them are identical.

Also should we list test duration? I’ve had some tests go for over four hours and then crap out

Dealer name and even purchase date would be most useful as well.

If got through Amazon, it’s also important to know wether it’s been sold and fulfilled by Amazon or it came from a third party seller.

There seem to be more fake cards than real ones nowadays.

for sure. first thing i do with any card is write it front to back with h2testw to make sure it has full speed *and* capacity. unscrupulous sellers have found ways in teh past to make card capacity look larger than the actual writable area (like sell you a "128GB" card thats really only 32GB)

apart from that, not only are there fakes, there is malware in some cards. check out this dated, but fascinating, article.

https://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=3554

im still looking for the old-school disk benchmark software that would write and graph a disk across its whole surface (premise being inner and outer transfer rates on spinning disks are vastly different)... but i feel this could be useful on making sure a card can write to full speed all the way up to the point of full

Total time tested (2 different cards) : >70hrs, zero failures (>30hrs at 24/192 x 8ch, >25hrs @ 24/96 x 8ch, >15hrs @ 24/48, 8 channel)

Mix-Pre type: 6, FW (varies)
Manufacturer: Sandisk
Model: "100 MB/s Extreme Pro microsdhc, $14 purchased 7/2019
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XYHN68L)
Card Size: 32GB (29.71GB usable)
Class: class 10/ U3 / V-30 /A1
Part#:SDSQXCG-032G
Serial #: 9187DPGQC1H2
Country of Origin: China
Tested speed (h2testw on Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller): Writing speed: 49.5 MByte/s, Reading speed: 70.2 MByte/s

Test 1
FW 3.03, preroll off
Recording Format (Bit Depth/Sample Rate):24/192
Available recording time on full card at stated bitrate: 1h55m
Number of Channels: 8 (6 iso+mixdown)
Phantom (On/Off): 4 channels on
Result: PASSED. Filled entire card, 1:55:00, three times with no errors.
Notes: first time was low level formatted on computer, then formatted in mixpre. Quick formatted in mixpre for runs 2 and 3
Powered by 4 fully charged Powerex Precharged AAs, starting voltage 1.37V per cell. Battery indicator started blinking red somewhere between 1:57:00 and 2:04:00 (i walked away so not sure when it hit red exactly), at which point i switched to usb-c battery. Third run was done with powerex pro (non-LSD) and was blinking red after 1:59:00 and shut itself down 4 minutes later, so more or less equivalent to the powerex precharged LSDs

Test 2
FW 4.01, preroll off
Recording Format (Bit Depth/Sample Rate):24/192
Available recording time on full card at stated bitrate: 1h55m
Number of Channels: 8 (6 iso+mixdown)
Phantom (On/Off): 4 channels on
Result: PASSED. Filled entire card, five times thru with no errors.
Notes: first time was low level formatted on computer using SD formatter (32kb cluster), then formatted in mixpre. Subsequent passes quick formatted in mixpre only
Powered by USB-C battery

Test 3
FW 4.01, preroll off
Recording Format (Bit Depth/Sample Rate):24/96
Available recording time on full card at stated bitrate: 3h50m
Number of Channels: 8 (6 iso+mixdown)
Phantom (On/Off): 4 channels on
Result: PASSED. Filled entire card, three times with no errors.
Notes: quick formatted in mixpre after test 2 above
Powered by USB-C battery

general notes: first card I tested that could sustain the mixpre6's max write rate. Actually bought this little guy for my Roland R-07 which is limited to 32GB SDHC but its the best so far. Will check into larger sizes in the PRO series (edit: none of the following cards worked with 3.03, 64gb pro micro, 128gb pro micro, 64gb pro (full size), 128gb (full size), perhaps 32GB SDHCs are most stable)

CPDT (on Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller):

Mix-Pre type: 6 (firmware 3.0.3 & 4.01)
Manufacturer: Kingston
Model: Kingston Canvas React Part Number: SDR/64GB
Rated Speed: 100MB/s read and 80MB/s write (BM Speed Test: Read: 88MB/s Write: 75MB/s)
Class: UHS-I Video Speed Class (V30)
Serial #:
Card Size, preferably in GB: 64 (64, 128 and 256 share same specs)
Recording Format (Bit Depth/Sample Rate): 24/192
Number of Channels: 8 => 6 ISO + 2 Mix

Edit:
After factory reset of the settings and MixPre-6 itself and firmware 4.0.1.
Then new settings and freshly formatted card.
I managed to fill the card completely without failure. Pure luck? need more testing.

I formatted the card in the MP6.

Note:
High read and write speed card which works perfect for high bitrate RAW video recording but do not work in Sound Devices MixPre-6.

I got a new USB3 UHS-II compliant card reader as all of the card measurements i was taking with my older Toshiba Portege's built-in PCI SD card reader ("Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller") seemed to top out around 40MB/sec write and 60 MB/sec read

new reader:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012PSAEDC

I still have some of the cards tested above, will rerun. where you see "Lexar SR2" in test note,  thats the reader im using.

I have a slew of these Portege R83x/R93x laptops for home and work use (like my audio gear, im a brand loyalist and have been using toshiba for 2 decades). cards at home that were running 40/60 do 50/70 on what i believe is the same PCI-e controller and driver, will investigate

ive also seen differences of 10% on the Lexar SR2 depending on the USB3 controller and driver to which i connect it

Point being, i suppose, is there are vast differences in how different hardware and software installations handle the same card (which is the point of this thread, i suppose)
