I'm using a 6GB Hitachi Microdrive. Many others use them as well. Several use CF cards. All work just fine, but one is alot cheaper than the other. It also appears the Dane-Elec CF cards have some issues?

Read through the MT posts and you can see what everyone is using and what record times, etc everyone is getting.

is it confirmed that microdrives work fine?  any good/bad experiences worth noting?

I've got both a Kingston 4gb CF card and a 4gb Hitachi microdrive.  I mainly use the CF card which has worked great -- no issues.  I've only tested the microdrive at home and had no problems with it.  I lent the 4gb microdrive to scottsch3 for a Duo show since he had just got his MT and his CF card hadn't yet shown up.  He used is for the Duo's 1:45 single set and it worked fine.  Nice thing is the Hitachi microdrive was only $75 from ebay.

the only issure i am having with mine is this:

when i go to download the recording, my desktop PC tells me that the drive is corrupt.  I hooked it up to my laptop and it downloaded everything fine.  so, the laptop is the work-around for now, and i just dump the recordings from there to a firewire drive and i am good to go.

All appears well on my end. No complaints. I got the 6GB of eBay for $99. Not sure if they are still around, but a hell of a deal.

Now if the MT would just become more stable we'll be in business!

flash cards are the best option I think that solid state recording is way cooler than using a micro drive its more robust and the battery should last longer

Todd, what sample/bit rates have you tested the microdrive for?

I've only tested the microdrive at 16/44, but Scott ran it at 24 bits for the Duo.  I don't know if it was 24/44 or 24/48, but he did say it came out fine.

I've run several shows 24/96 with a 6gb Hitachi/Apple microdrive with no problems. I am currently running my Lemosax into the MT using the analog line-in.

Those Hitachi microdrives must be tanks if they can handle 24/96 recordings.  Nice job fellas.

I wonder how the Hitachi would do in a PMD 671?

The only thing that would concern me with using the Hitachi microdrive that I own, would be if for some reason the sound of the microdrive spinning somehow translates into an audible noise when recording through the analog inputs. I have NOT noticed any audible occurrences of microdrive noise yet, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear someone mention this.

Thanks for all your input guys.
i'm thinking the Hitachi 6 gb microdrive for the price per gig ratio, then when i can afford it get a couple of 4 gig flash cards.
My microtrack will be here on friday.  i'm looking forward to doing 24/48.
keep up the good work out there pulling good recordings.
thanks

Grabbed a 6gb apple microdrive off ebay & damn, that thing will last longer than the batteries on the MT!
