I'm building some battery systems for another board member and was wondering what kind of chargers people use. We're looking for smart chargers (the kind that charge quickly and then drop to float so the battery isn't damaged). I've used xenotrix (sp?) before but was wondering if there were any other options.
More importantly, where's the cheapest place to order the recommended charger? We'll need 2 of them.
+Ts to anyone that can help us out

I have a couple xenotronix model HPX-10 chargers, exactly what you describe, fast charge moves to float. Bit expensive though. I believe I got it from mouser.com

I use the Powersonic psc-6100a
(6volt 1000ma)
cheapest I found in a quick search:

I had a BatteryTender float charger that worked really well

I think batteryminder is also a good one, I believe nick (nickspicks) uses these

I have one that I don't use. It's yours if you want it.

I'll take an extended loan if you don't mind...

Yeah, you can have it. PM me your addy and i'll get it out to you free of charge. I hacked off the xlr end, so you'll have to solder one back on.

charging that battery "off the shelf" took about 7 hours today...ymmv

I use battery minders for all my SLA batts and also my golf cart batteries (in my motorhome)
Best part is that you can leave em connected indefinately, and I noticed that the charge from the batteryminder seemed to last longer (electric scooter) than the regular bulk/float chargers.
Watch cheap sla chargers, they tend to float at a voltage that is too high for em, and they get cooked. Once cooked, they NEVER work right again.
Would +t ya, but alas I can't yet.
Enjoy the charger!
