Line/Mic input is switchable.
No screen at all..  so headphones might be necessary just to make sure it's actually recording...  although, there is a "peak" light.

lol like i needed another toy

im a sucker for shit like this

from the manual (https://www.reloop.com/media/catalog/product/pdf/2/3/4/234073_Reloop_IM.pdf)

2. POWER/REC STATUS LED:
This LED is lit when the device in turned on. The LED starts to blink after
recording has started.

6. LOCK/UNLOCK/TRANSFER SWITCH
In order to avoid unwanted stopping during recordings, you can switch
TAPE 2 to lock mode. All buttons are locked and no changes and adjustments can be carried out. Switch back to UNLOCK in order to be able to
carry out changes.

10. INPUT GAIN DIAL
Via the Input Gain Dial you can adjust the input signal of TAPE 2. This is
helpful in case your input source is too loud and you need to decrease its
volume in order to avoid clipping.
TIP: We recommend leaving the Input Gain Dial at maximum during
recording and adjusting input volume via the input source.

reviews (need translated):
https://www.amazona.de/test-reloop-tape-2/
https://www.bonedo.de/artikel/einzelansicht/reloop-tape-2-test.html

from the second review:
The tape lives up to its name in terms of design and look, but is a bit bulkier in the hand than a real compact cassette and is slightly thicker and heavier, more precisely, it measures 107.4 x 65.5 x 16.2 millimeters at 85 grams.

so it seems the "hide this thing with a bunch of input jacks in a tape case to pass around security" is a no-go. its actually slightly heavier than a pcm-a10

24/48 and a 128 GB max card.

Put a -20 dB attenuator in front of it, and some usb power, and tape all weekend.

“so it seems the "hide this thing with a bunch of input jacks in a tape case to pass around security" is a no-go. its actually slightly heavier than a pcm-a10“

The ‘advantage’ for certain circumstances is that there’s no built-in mics. That makes it an ‘MP3 Player’.  ;)

Hmm.  I wonder whether it would be possible to build a solid state cassette, which you'd put into to a cassette deck, and it would record from the recording signal from the head, and play back via the same route.  And it would record for days!

I think my DCC machine is probably still in the garage somewhere.  After not much use it started eating the tapes....
