V2 question (M/S related)
« on: October 26, 2006, 11:16:20 AM »
As previously discussed the V2 can be made to decode M/S on the fly by switching internal jumpers. While I know that it's better to do it post... sometimes you just want it done. My question is this. I know I have seen pics of folks that have modded V2s so that, rather than having to flip the internal jumpers, they can flip a switch, like the HPF switch to change between M/S and standard. I know I wouldn't mind giving up my HPF (that I will only do post when I can properly analyze the files) to be able to change between M/S and standard on the fly. Often I don't know what setup I would use untill I am in the venue and see my relative position to the stage/PA. At that point, the last thing I want to do is start opening up my pre.

I believe Grace will do the mod for you for a fee. They don't remove your HPF switch though. They cut out a new spot and add a switch.

hmmm, if it's just a jumper setting, seems like it would be easy enough to wire up a small toggle switch and mount it in the faceplate to make and break the connection. i might have to have a look at my V2 sometime to see how hard it would be to do.

hehe...the V2 is a keeper....i dig it lots.
if I end up getting the Portico I've been eyeing up, maybe I'd part with the V2.

Here is a pic of DP's V3 modded for M/S.  The V2 one is basically the same.

Cool. I'll drop DP a line and see how much it cost.

Just as a follow up to this, in case anyone was keeping score. I did talk to DP about this... he said that he had sent his Lunatec in for other reasons but while talking to their service they said that they could add the switch. He said it cost a couple hundred bucks or so to have it done.

In the meantime however, I realized (or rather remembered) that the 722 could decode m/s on the fly so, even though it would be easier to adjust the gain on the V2, it seemed a bit of a waste to have the switch added to my V2 also. Also, I've pretty much only been doing m/s post anyway.
