Title: 720p & Bluray burning?
Post by: beatkilla on October 24, 2010, 06:44:42 PM
Anyone putting 720p footage on bluray? For example from the point and shoot cams.It seems that they shoot 30p which is not in the bluray spec.24p and 60p are but even rendering to 720p 24fps i cant get a compliant file.Im not new to bluray authoring but until now have only been using 1080i without problems.

What are you using for editing/authoring?
I am using Sony Vegas and DVD architect.Out of vegas there is no 720p bluray template and anything rendered that does not have a Bluray template is not compliant in DVD architect. Also if you alter any settings in the customs tab of a bluray template it is not compliant in DVD architect. In DVD architect you can let it render or rerender your footage to 720p 24fps. by opening  FILE >optimize disc(this shows a green checkmark next to all compliant files).Whatever is NOT compliant will be rendered to whatever your DVD architect project properties are set to.So change them to 1280 x 720  24fps.BUT i want to avoid a double render out of vegas and DVDarchitect as im sure you do as well. But that will get it done. Also set the bitrate to what you want in DVD architect project properties and the audio format if its not compliant.Think of DVD architect project properties as your render settings. If your using other software than i have no clue.Still looking for a compliant file structure of 720p for DVD architect so if any one knows a hack.....

On second thought, I'm editing on a Mac, so I guess I'm out of luck on the 720p/Blu-ray.  We all know what Steve Jobs thinks about Blu-ray.    :-\

Have either of you tried with the AVCHD Disc format? They play in most bluray players. I believe they also need to be 60fps if using 720, and even though some of those cameras record in 30fps, the videos often have a flag that uses frame doubling, to make them 60fps compatible and I guess directly ready to burn as AVCHD. So evidently you wouldn't have to render or encode even once, much less twice.

I have good news for users of Panasonic zs7.This camera records 1280 x 720p 30fps.But actually doubles it up tp 60p(59.94)I can confirm by this is true as i have raw files here and in Vegas and DVD architect the raw files are 1280 x 720 59.94fps Progressive. And the best news is that in DVD architect the raw files are COMPLIANT!Well the video portion is but not the audio which is no big deal as i can work around that.Of course if you want to edit or add fades etc. Your back to my initial problem.

After hours of testing i have found that it is possible to render a DVD Architect bluray compliant 1280 x 720p 59.94 video stream out of Sony 8 or 9.If you need help with it PM me.
