I flew these little twigs of a microphone last night for the Mule in NH. My location was about as perfect as you could ask for.
ran 90deg / 17cm @ 7' > UA-5 digi mod > jb3
Been listening on my system all day.
Funny thing, these are the "mini me" to the AKG c483 combo. They look like minature versions, and they have a very similar sound...that classic AKG sizzle in the upper end. Bottom end is tight, i'm impressed to say the least.
the PA last night sounded very balanced, not too bright. Not overly bass ridden. The recording sounds just about the same. I figured i'd notice the roll off of these Audix's 40-20 responce, but it seems just about right to my ears.
Over all, i'm impressed. Its going to be hard to use them more often as I just inherrited Staggers c34 for the next year. But even still, I'd say these AUDIXs sound and look and cost like 1/3rd of a new set of c480s w/hyper caps. I think they sounded much nicer than the Oktava mc-012, my all time favorite low cost hypers. i'd have to do some comparring. I'm sure I'll have the opportunity.
B&P offer for this show is open. 2-22-04, Gmule at the Capital theatre. Concord, NH.
hopefully someone will Torrent it?

nice, id like to pick those up one of these days

they are a very worthy $500 stealth rig

had very similar response with the M1290 cards at Moe last year.
Them Audix's do wonders considering how small and inexpensive they are!

Just how much do those Audix 1290s cost anyway? Phil's got me intrigued...

Phil quoted me $560 I think for a pair of 1290 cards when he was sorking for SS. Everyone else has them listed at $299 per mic.
