Title: interconnects and shielding?
Post by: markrsmith on December 03, 2012, 12:14:31 PM
Do xlr interconnect's need to be shielded (2-wire and shield as ground)?  Or can I use an unshielded 3-wire cable tp go from preamp to recorder, each cable would be less than 8" long?

It depends on your application.  Overall, not a good idea, but if you're talking about short interconnects in an environment you don't expect to have a lot of EM noise then perhaps.

3-wire unshielded might be ok for line level signals, but you shouldn't use unshielded ICs for mic-level signals.
