Title: Tascam DR2D question/ Roland R5 question
Post by: waltmon on April 07, 2016, 05:31:28 PM
If I am running the CA-14s with the UBB should I bee running line in or microphone in?  I've run it a couple time with the microphone in, but I'm wondering if I should go line in or if there's any benefit to either.

Also curious about the Roland R5...it looks pretty close to the DR2D...curious if there's any advantage to one over the other.

Thanks

Either input should work.  If you cannot get sufficient levels running line in with the input gain cranked up, switch to microphone in which is a more sensitive input.  If you can get good levels through either, try it both ways and see if both recordings sound similar or if one has less noise during quiet parts.

The main features the DR2d has which other handhelds don't is the DUAL recording function.  If you don't use that than either recorder should do the job.  The DR2d also has an IR remote control if that's important to you.

I've been running mic in with sensitivity set to medium...no noticable noise.  Thanks. I will try line in next go.

Also, the DR2D can do 4 channels of recording[MIC + LINE IN] and the Roland R5 can only do 2 channel :)
