I know there have been some posts about this in the past, but just wondering if anyone has done a comparison. I'm seeing some good deals for the R-1 for under $400 and the Oade model is $530. Is it worth the extra cost? I don't really need the +6 or +12 mods since I have an MMA6k on the way.

I'll gladly test one out if someone sends an Oade modded R1 my way for a few weeks ;)
I thought my comparison was going to be between the R1 and the MT, but my MT has not been in my hands since I got it and immediately sent it to someone to build me cables and he's dissapeared with it >:(

I think my Oade unit sounds fan'freakin'tastic. I wish there was a clip indicator on the case of these things though so it would be alot easier to set levels.

I run both the stock and Oade, line-in from DPA4060s> MMA6000. I have run them in situations similar enough (same venue same seat, same instruments) to try to compare them, but different enough (different violinists, different works played) to make me unsure I'm really hearing the difference I think I hear. I think the Oade mods are a modest improvement at a modest cost, definitely worth the money to me.
If someone can suggest a simple fast but more objective test, I'd be happy to try it. Should not involve laboratory equipment, six-figure audiophile equipment, or explosive devices.

Madman,
Where are you finding the best price for the stock R-1? PM me!
Thanks,

I, unfortunately, know all about that one....

Just a thought - if you intend to get it modified by Oade in the future, you have to purchase the stock one from him. He'll only modifiy ones you purchased through him.
