28-135 is . Not a bad lens, but not the best one: a bit long at its shorter end to be considered a wide. Old type IS, not really bright, it's a consumer film lens, not the best for digital. Sold it after a few months. Surely not excellent.
Canon 17-55 2.8 IS is a hidden "L" quality wide to standard. Almost as good as Canon 24-70 2.8 L. First one is perfect for low light scenes, a bit too short to be considered as a "one lens is enough to go with". 24-70 is a lot heavier and feels like a tank.
24-70 has warmer colors, lacks IS and it's quite heavy.
Bought and kept both a 17-55 and a 24-70 (bought also a second body for my girlfriend, so we can share lenses). Can't decide which is the best. So if your request is for a "excellent standard lens, IS UM EF, EF-S in the canon family" well... head or cross?
24-105 is good, but not excellent (tested but bought the 24-70)
